HOMESCHOOLING

To facilitate continuous learning for children whose education is suffering from the unstable political situation, due to the military coup, Hi Burma has established a range of Homeschooling programmes across Myanmar. For many reasons, but mainly the crimes against humanity committed by the military, parents did not send their sons and daughters to school when the military reopened them. That is when Homeschooling was started by our teachers, mostly in remote rural areas. They are very enthusiastic about learning and teaching and are passionate about making valuable contributions to their respective communities. Our teachers create engaging lessons that emphasize the use of creative and critical thinking in daily life. These lessons are designed to help students develop the learning and communication skills they need for the 21st century. To enable students to work efficiently and productively in their various situations, teachers provide group activities in addition to a variety of classes centered on science, maths, English, and art. We have Homeschooling centres in the states of Kachin, Kayah and Shan , also in the regions of Mandalay, and Sagaing.

Success Stories

Despite challenges like poor internet and political instability, dedicated teachers and students stayed committed, using resilience and innovation to overcome obstacles and build brighter futures.

"Despite some students wanting to return to school during the military coup, their parents resisted due to concerns about quality. Driven by a passion for teaching and learning, I began educating children in my community. I've seen significant improvement in my students' academic abilities: they read fluently, apply math concepts, and speak confidently. Once democracy is restored, I plan to return to formal teaching and actively work to improve Myanmar's education system."

"Encouraged by my parents and principal, I began teaching in my village. Due to slow internet, unaffordable data, and lack of devices, students couldn't attend online classes. So, I organized homeschooling for 60 students, teaching four classes daily. Despite financial limitations, I used my own resources to buy teaching aids. Now, my students actively participate in discussions, share ideas, ask questions, and enjoy group and pair work. I'm committed to continuing my efforts for my community."

"When schools reopened under the military regime, my parents and I decided I shouldn't attend. That's why I joined Hi Burma's one of the homeschooling centers to continue my education. I regularly share what I learn with my parents and siblings. I'm very happy with my English improvement since I started. In the future, I want to study art and painting. Thank you so much to my teachers and Hi Burma for organizing this program."

"My name is Hnin Mya Aye, a 13-year-old student from Tr. Steven's homeschooling program. Before joining, I struggled with math and English; I couldn't read, calculate, or solve problems. After just two months, I can read some sentences and complete almost all the math exercises. I'm very grateful to Hope Institute Burma for their encouragement, support, and help. I've improved significantly. I hope you'll always be there for us. I love you all."
